HAMMOND LOW VOLTAGE TRANSFORMERS ================================ by Jerry Proc VE3FAB E-mail:jproc@bellglobal.com The following is a partial transcription from the power transformer section of the Hammond catalogue. I have intentionally listed those transformers which are most suitable for powering filament strings in vacuum tube equipment. 166 SERIES TYPE C - CHANNEL BRACKET MOUNTING CAT NO. This method is particularly useful in identifying used or surplus transformers when a catalogue is not available. For some reason the 167 series lacks stamped power ratings. The catalog number is in the format: aaa Xvv Where: aaa is the series number. See description above. X is a letter relating to the current rating of the secondary. Refer to the table below. vv is the secondary voltage rounded down to the nearest integer volt at full load. Letter Current Rating X ====================== B 30 ma C 50 or 85 ma D 100 ma E 150 ma F 250 or 300 ma G 500 or 600 or 700ma J 1 A K 1.2 or 1.5 A L 2 A M 3 A N 4 A P 5 A Q 6 A R 8 A S 10 A T 12 A U 15 or 16 A V 20 or 21 A Z 50 A Examples: 167N6 - 6.3 volt secondary rated at 4 amps. 167J25 - 25 volt secondary rated at 1 amp.
