Message-ID: Lo and behold, whilst sorting through my motly assortment of tubes, toward an semblance of organization into the Xmas tree ornament box my wife presented to me (and I mean PRESENTED, not gave me a present, hint hint say no more), I came across 2 6L6 tubes. Didn't know I had 'em. Tested up fine in the tube tester. So, now that I don't have to wait at all to find some at the flea market or surplus emporium, anyone want to throw out their fave 6L6 xmtter circuit to me. I've got a few here, from 73 (6L6 Special), CQ (Ingram), and some photocopies of 1938-39 Fred Sutter 'QSL' projects in QST. There is a wide variety of complexities amongst them - ranging from 'really, that looks too simple' to very involved (the 2nd place winner in an old 73 'home brew' contest). I am lucky in that I have a couple old Heath power supplies on hand, for HW-101 and HW-12/Cheyenne sort of rigs, that can give me the 300 or 450 volts for the plate, as well as filament voltage of course. So I don't have scrounge up transformers, power chokes, rectifiers, and electrolytics for a p.s. Your input is welcome - looks like winter is settled in here for awhile; record cold temperatures around here now and into the weekend, so I think Feb. is a nice month to brew up a 6L6 transmitter. Bands; 80 or 40 for now; or 30 m. for the summer (tubes in summer! hmm, perhaps..); no fundemental xtals here for 160m. currently, but there is for 40 and 80. None for 30m either come to think of it. Could have some fun and use the VF-1 vfo and forget about xtals and just build it for whatever band. Thanks. So hard to choose from the variety of articles on a 6L6 xmttr, so I'd like to go the right way, but not cop out and go too easy or spend too much time going unnecessarily overboard in complexity. Most of the big ham mags are in the library here, so if its in QST, 73, CQ or HamRadio I can probably look it up. When I -finally- get some time I'm going to build a "detente special" (JAN 6AG7 and Sovtek 6L6 (or maybe two?)). Lots of circuits for this lineup in handbooks -- I'm sure I could dig up a couple and send them to you. They don't seem to vary much except in the output circuit (tank or pi network). All the ones I've looked at use simple untuned coupling between tubes.
