The following manuals are ascii rekeyings of original manual reproductions
of WWI and early 1920's Navy and commercial marine regenerative radio
receivers.  They were apparently retyped by RCA/Radiomarine Corporation
of America, from earlier manuals, as service notes.  No copyrights were
found on any of the reproductions, and the originals are from the Navy
Department, Bureau of Steam Engineering, Radio Test Shop, Washington
Navy Yard, dating from about 1917.  These receivers were used widely
from WWI through WWII, in commercial circles, although they were retired
from Naval service about 1935, except in standby or emergency use.
For study purposes, these receivers, the SE-143, SE-1220, SE-1420, SE-1440,
IP-501, IP-501A, and BC-131 represent a continuous line of regenerative
receiver development starting in the Navy Radio Test Shop, about 1915,
and continued through about 1930.  The development of this series of
regenerative radio receivers can be seen by studying the terminology
used in the manuals, and by studying the photographs and schematic and
wiring diagrams.  Their common root is evident.  Also, as a classic
example of the epitome of regenerative receiver design from that era,
the IP-501-A should be closely studied.  Its design is still quite
remarkable, and very effective as a receiver.  Studying and adapting
the basic design to amateur service use would be an excellent project
for the experimenter, and glowbug constructor wishing to build an
entirely usable high-class regenerative receiver.  Other manuals will follow.
